Taking the step to come to counseling is a courageous one, it shows strength, and is a proactive step towards positive change in one’s life. Through counseling the client is offered a safe environment to discuss life stressors. My primary goals during therapy are to help individuals and families to cultivate healthy relationships, develop effective communication skills and establish an overall sense of well-being. To achieve these goals I focus on each individual’s strengths as a platform for making positive changes. How I can helpI spent two years as an advocate in a youth intervention program, where I worked extensively with adolescents and their families. The goal of the program was to unify families by equipping them with skills to problem solve effectively and employ healthy communication patterns. I went on to work at a residential treatment center, which consisted of adolescents with maladaptive behaviors. I continue to gain knowledge about diverse situations each day while completing my internship at Family Service. Professional Experience
