Stevick and Family Service: Like Peas and Carrots
The Helen Stevick Senior Center has historically been a place for older Champaign area residents to gather for all sorts of activities ranging from listening to a presentation given by a local leader (think senators and mayors) to a game of euchre to a good old-fashioned kaffeeklatsch.
”Stevick” (as we call it with the warmest affection) has been located in downtown Champaign, inside the law offices of Maatuka Al-Heeti Emkes Law Office off Windsor Road, and now at Family Service near downtown.
Although Stevick has only been contained in our walls since the summer of 2025, its history long predates coming to Family Service.
Bringing Stevick to Family Service has created a “one-stop shop” for seniors in Champaign County. For a lot of our older neighbors, this means they can come for the card game or coffee and stay for help with Medicare.
And that’s accurate: Any senior coming to Stevick has fast access to our Aging Services Navigators who can answer questions and help problem-solve just about any issue related to seniors staying independent.
