Program Description

Our goal is to help you age safely and actively in your home for as long as possible. Our caseworker knows local resources and federal programs to provide support for older adults in Douglas County and their families. You may call her with quick questions and assistance over the phone on weekdays. She is also available to meet you by appointment in your home to assist with a variety of needs, including:

  • Applying for benefit programs like BEAM (senior license plate discount), and Homestead exemption age 65+ (on your property taxes)

  • Reviewing and explaining your Medicare options

  • Determining eligibility for financial assistance programs (Link card, Medicaid, LiHEAP, water bills, unemployment benefits)

  • Coordinating Senior Transportation rides

  • Support with food (emergency groceries, registering for Peace Meals)

  • Acting as your advocate as you navigate medical care and to procure durable medical equipment

  • Providing supportive counseling as you experience the changes and losses that often come with age

Eligibility & Service Area:

Age 60 or older
Champaign or Douglas County resident

Cost

There is no fee.
